What parents and carers need to know - amended guidance
DfE has updated guidance on what parents and carers need to know about early years providers, schools and colleges in the autumn term. Amendments have been made to reflect the local restrictions, including changes to the sections on shielding, face coverings, school trips and extra-curricular activities.
The guidance makes clear that if a child is still in the clinically extremely vulnerable group, they should return to school from 2nd December at all local restriction tiers unless they are one of the very small number of pupils or students under paediatric or NHS care (such as recent transplant or very immunosuppressed children) and have been advised specifically by their GP or clinician not to attend school or college.
The guidance also informs parents that schools may need to consider alternative approaches to delivering performances (such as nativity plays and carol concerts). Attendance by parents, carers and others will need to be restricted, and performances may be live-streamed or recorded instead, subject to the usual safeguarding considerations and parental permission. Schools in tier 3 areas should not host performances with an audience.
Schools will be working to resume all their before and after school activities. The advice to parents is that they can continue to access this provision, as well as other out-of-school activities. Specific guidance for parents of children attending out of school settings has also been amended.
